Q/A How to Keep a Contractor on Schedule

Q: We are remodeling an older home we just bought. How do I keep contractors on schedule?

A: Keep a project on time by having weekly meetings and ask for a schedule of when selections are needed. Meaning, when do you need to have your tile chosen, faucets picked out, etc.? Sometimes projects take longer because of things outside the builder’s control, but sometimes delays happen because of misunderstandings, a general loss of momentum, and waiting for materials to arrive. Homeowners can help ensure a timely project by having all selections made at the start of construction, as opposed to making selections during the process. Ask for a weekly review. This keeps the contractor and homeowner accountable and on the same page.
